FALMOUTH – Florence E. Fielder, 90, formerly of Raymond and Westbrook, died Wednesday, May 10, at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth, after a courageous battle with dementia.

She was born April 30, 1916, in Hightstown, N.J., a daughter of of Montanye (Monte) and Minnie Norcross and attended school in Hightstown, N.J.

She was born into a farming family and as the oldest of three children, developed a strong work ethic and a leading role in the family at a young age. She was a member of the Past Matrons Assoc. of Mizpah No. 3 O.E.S., a former president of the Hawthorne Garden Club and a longtime member of the Raymond Congregational Church.

She was best known for her love of family, cooking and gardening. Mrs. Fielder prepared many meals for church socials as well as Masonic and Eastern Star banquets. In 1971, she moved to Raymond Cape to retire with her beloved husband, Elbert “Jerry” Fielder who passed away in 1989.

Surviving are two sons, Ernest Jerome Fielder and Elbert James Fielder; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Elinor Joan) Ball of Rehoboth, Mass. and Mrs. Clyde (Elizabeth Jane) Fitz of Pembroke, N.H.; three granddaughters, Susan Fielder, Shelley Smith and Sarah Lounsbury; four grandsons, Spencer Fitz, Monte Fielder, Stuart Ball and Daniel Ball; and seven great-grandchildren.
