Floyd H. Farrington

GREEN VALLEY, Ariz. – Floyd H. Farrington, 83, of Green Valley, Ariz., formerly of Wilton, passed away July 5, in Green Valley.

He was the son of Eben R. and Iva M. Macomber Farrington. He was born in Wilton, Jan. 15, 1924, and attended Wilton schools and graduated from Wilton Academy, Class of 1943.

He entered the service on Nov. 28, 1944, and was shipped to Japan. While he was on the ship, they declared the war was over, so his unit was assigned to cleanup duty while there. When he returned from the service he worked on the “Home Farm.” He married Mae Hoyt April 10, 1948 in Farmington.

His uncle, Raymond got him into the New York State Ranger School in 1949. He graduated from there and came back to Wilton and worked at IP in Jay for a number of years.

In 1968, he moved his family to Sanford, where he worked for the Maine Forestry Service for York County and Mae worked for the H.D. Goodall Hospital as a registered medical technician. She died Dec. 20, 1974 in a Boston hospital.

He married Carolyn in 1976 in Dayton. He retired from the Forestry Service in 1986, and retired to Green Valley, Ariz.

Some of his best times were spent on his boat, the “Sherri-Ann,” going up and down the Maine coast and also hunting and fishing with his brothers and buddies and telling stories about the things he used to do about other trips. He loved going places in his camper. He and Mae went from Maine to Newfoundland in it and in his later years came to Maine to visit with his family and old friends.

He was interested in genealogy and where his ancestors came from. He liked the family gatherings and parties. He will be sadly missed.

He was a member of the Society of American Foresters, Ranger School Alumni Association of New York and a life member of the Fraternal Lodge of Masons, past member of the Eastern Star of Wilton, the East Wilton Grange, the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine and the National Rifle Association. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn of Green Valley, Ariz.; a daughter, Sherine Ann Farrington of Conway, N.H.; two grandsons, Mathew Snyder of Houston, Texas, and Ryan Snyder, and his wife, Lisa, of Haverhill, Mass.; two great-grandsons, Evan of Houston, Texas, and Colin of Haverhill, Mass.; his sister, Glynnese Waite of Farmington; his two brothers, Thayden, and his wife, Nora, of Jay and Milton, and his wife, Anna, of Farmington; and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
