FLY Football: Jr. Lions, Sr. Steelers win consolation games


LEWISTON – American Engraving Jr. Lions and Easy Rent All Sr. Steelers scored victories in FLY Football consolation games.

The Jr. Lions posted their first win of the season, defeating Gee & Bee Jr. Redskins, 7-6.

Austin Heath scored his first career touchdown behind a strong offensive line led by Miles Teague and Walter Jackson. Ricky Cote punched in the game-winning extra point. Davion Jackson ran hard to keep the chains moving and seal the victory.

Bennie Montgomery, Heath, Jordyn Rubin and Teague were forces for the Lions defense.

Shawn Jackson, Jayden Wilson and Kenyon Ray ran the ball effectively for the Redskins. Lashawne Hammond, Damon Gagne, Dillon Jones, Tanner Cortes and Austin Smiley all registered four tackles. Wilson scored the Redskins’ TD on a 45-yard interception return. Dante Lowndes recovered two fumbles.

In the senior consolation game, the Steelers squeaked out a 7-0 win over the Redskins.

James Flynn led the Steelers with 10 carries for 68 yards. He scored the only touchdown of the game with the help of a key block from Deion Sands. Quarterback Ben Bolduc completed a 16-yard pass to Sands.

Jacob McBride and Johan Gell each had four tackles for loss to spark the Steelers defense. Kievone Washington, Jake Morin, Jaznel Burns and Flynn each added three tackles. Brittany Mulligan played hard on both sides of the ball.

Chad Dumais, Tyler Palmer and Austin Greeley all ran well for the Redskins behind blocks from Noah Withee and Andrew Harriman. Leading the stubborn ‘Skins defense were Dumais, Withee, Greeley, Christian Fowler and Cane Dulac.
