Foolish proposal

Now we’ve heard everything.

We have never heard of anything or anyone being so ignorant as state Rep. Henry Joy’s proposal to split the state of Maine into Northern Maine and Northern Massachusetts (Sun Journal, March 11).

The state of Maine joined the union in 1820 because people were sick and tired of being ruled by Massachusetts. We have been a proud state, with a willingness to be productive (that is, until we started losing our jobs to overseas countries, which shouldn’t have happened). Both northern Maine and southern Maine were, and still should be, the state of Maine, not Northern Massachusetts.

As far as Rep. Joy’s legislative proposal goes, both he and it should be laughed out of the Legislature.

If he wants to be part of Massachusetts then let him move there, not move the southern part of Maine there.
