Foreign language teacher honored

AUBURN — Sandra Rich, of Auburn, received the Sister Solange Bernier Lifetime Achievement Award from the Foreign Language Association of Maine at their annual conference on March 5.

Rich was presented the award by Christopher Gram, FLAME Awards Committee chairman, honoring her 32 years of dedication to teaching world languages.

The award recognizes the career-long accomplishments of those who have demonstrated excellence in teaching and leadership throughout their careers as modern and classical language teachers. Rich was selected based upon letters of recommendation from present and former administrators, colleagues and students from her career, which dates back to 1970.

A graduate of University of Maine at Orono, Rich has taught at Westbrook High School and since 1983, at Gray New-Gloucester High School, as both a French and Spanish teacher. She has served as department head, French club and peer mentor advisor, in addition to her work in curriculum leadership and development.
