Former police officer indicted on sex charges

FARMINGTON — A Coplin Plantation man was indicted Thursday on 10 charges of felony unlawful sexual contact with a Franklin County girl under age 12.

Steve R. Goozey, 39, a former Carrabassett Valley police officer, is accused of having sexual contact with the girl between June 13, 2006, and May 30, 2010.

Goozey worked for the Carrabassett Valley Police Department for about three months in 2010 and was let go in late fall of that year due to unrelated circumstances, police Chief Scott Nichols said Thursday.

Franklin County Sheriff Detective David St. Laurent arrested Goozey on March 24 on one count of felony unlawful sexual contact. He was released from jail on $1,000 cash bail on March 25.

Goozey, whose address was initially listed as Westbrook on the Franklin County arrest log, was contacted by deputies after St. Laurent and Deputy Heidi Wilcox interviewed the child and her parent. He traveled to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department in Farmington and was arrested.
