Four more years of Bush

What would a third Bush presidential term look like?

Imagine continued war in Iraq with more American and Iraqi casualties; attacks on Pakistan and Iran and who knows where else; continued torture and spying on U.S. citizens; more ultra-conservative judges who do not respect our core democratic ideals; increasing numbers of people without health care; more tax cuts for those who least need them; more ambiguous legislation such as the Healthy Forests and Clear Skies Initiatives which have resulted in more environmental damage; continued denial of the threat that global warming poses; and on and on and on.

But Bush can’t run for a third term, right? No, but every Republican running for president has said they would continue to advance Bush’s agenda including these brilliant positions:

President Rudolph Giuliani would support more war in Iraq.

President Ron Paul would cut taxes.

President Mitt Romney would continue to torture and favors doubling the size of the Guantanamo Bay prison.

President John McCain would bomb Iran.

President Fred Thompson would have offered Scooter Libby a full pardon.

Presidents Mike Huckabee, Sam Brownback and Tom Tancredo believe in creationism.

No matter which Democrat faces one of these Bush clones, voters should be very clear that that’s the referendum at stake in the 2008 elections – not are you better off than you were eight years ago (and is anyone, besides the ultra-wealthy?), but can this nation survive four more years of the Republican idiocy?
