Frances G. Fairfield


NORWAY – Frances G. Fairfield, 85, of Poland, passed away on Jan. 13, at the Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Gorham on April 21, 1921, a daughter of the late Harry and Edith Day.

She attended Gorham schools and graduated form Gorham High School.

She went on to further educate herself at the Gorham Normal School where she graduated with her teacher’s certificate.

She taught for several years in Gorham and later went on to teach for 21 years at the Auburn Elementary School until her retirement.

She enjoyed teaching summer school for many years and was a member of the Auburn Teachers Association.

She enjoyed gardening and knitting, but more than anything she loved spending time with her family.

Frances was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.

She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Gordon K. Fairfield. They were married in Saco on Nov. 10, 1946.

She is also survived by her two children, Richard “Dick” Fairfield and wife, Barbara, of South Carolina, and Gail Poirier and companion, Jeff Therriault, of Poland; her six grandchildren, Nathan Fairfield and wife, Cindy, Matthew Fairfield and wife, Dawn, Kathryn Corey and husband, Timmy, Kimberly Lee and husband, Jeff, and Karen Files and fiancé, Andrew Logan, and John Files; her eight great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, two sisters and a brother.

Her family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation and gratitude to the entire staff at Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Frances and her family.
