Frances K. Turgeon


PORTLAND – Frances Kowalzyk Turgeon, 68, of McKeen Street, Brunswick, a person who loved people died peacefully and unexpectedly Tuesday, April 18, at Maine Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Livermore Falls, Dec. 2, 1937, the daughter of Henry P. and Harriet G. Cormier Kowalzyk. She attended local schools and graduated from the University of Maine at Farmington.

She taught home economics at Sabattus, Fairfield, Fort Kent, Caribou, and Brunswick schools before her marriage to Bruce A. Turgeon on July 3, 1963.

She was an active member of St. Charles Borromeo Church in Brunswick and valued her many close friends, who will miss her warmth and cheerful personality.

The Turgeons started their family in Presque Isle and moved to Brunswick, where they raised their three children. She was a devoted mother and enjoyed many happy hours with her children and their growing families.

In addition to her husband of 42 years, she is survived by her son, Christopher his wife, Stephanie and granddaughter, Mallory of Augusta; son, Kirk and his wife, Jennifer and grandchildren, Riley and Reece of Brunswick; and daughter, Jennifer Nevala and husband, Thomas and granddaughter, Sofia of Granger, Ind.; her mother, Harriet Kowlazyk and brother, Charles, both of Rumford; three sisters, Julienne Mullen and her husband, Richard, of Scarborough, Marilyn Desroches and her husband, Donald, of Newark, Del. and Nancy Giordano and her husband, Vincent, of Hopewell, Va.; and her loving mother in-law, Dora Turgeon of Madison.

Nieces, nephews and other relatives have joined Frances’ immediate family in grief at her passing. Her kindness and generosity have touched many.
