Franco center keys in on young artists


LEWISTON – Justine Pelletier, a young pianist from the University of Montreal, will perform in recital Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Franco-American Heritage Center. She will play works by Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, and Ravel. She will also offer an educational presentation geared to young audiences Friday, Feb. 9.

Since giving her first public concert at age 9, on Radio Canada, the CBC French language network, Pelletier has performed many times on radio and television. She was soloist on three occasions at Montreal’s Place des Arts with the McGill Chamber Orchestra under Boris Brott. Recently, she gave recitals in Belgium and in Montreal and last summer, she performed at the Banff Centre for the Arts and the Orford Arts Centre. She has garnered prizes in piano competitions in Canada and has received numerous scholarships, including one from the Quebec Arts Council.

Pelletier has studied with master teachers Marc Durand, Jacques Rouvier, and Julian Martin. She currently studies with Jean Saulnier, head of the piano department at the University of Montreal.
