Frank Rain


Rumford – Frank Rain, 90, of Coburn Avenue, Dixfield, died peacefully Thursday, April 6, at Rumford Community Home with his family by his side.

He was born March 8, 1916, in Manchester, England.

He was a graduate of Traip Academy of Kittery in 1935, and was a World War II Army Veteran.

He was a member of the Dixfield Congregational Church. He was a store manager for First National stores in Kittery and Rumford and in Alton and Wolfeboro, N.H., for 32 years after his time spent in the military.

He loved fly-fishing, bowling, pool, winters in Ruskin, Fla., with his beloved Genie, as well as constantly puttering around the house. He was an active member of the Dixfield Congregational Church. Blessed with a very dry sense of humor, he enjoyed playing practical jokes on everyone he knew.

He is survived by his son, Richard R. Rain and wife, Julianne, of Bow, N.H.; a daughter; Diane Carlton and husband, Dale, of Dixfield; stepsons, Warren Dorr of Peru and Richard Dorr and wife, Claire, of Bloomfield, Conn.; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, all of Maine and New Hampshire.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Marion E. Fraser in August 1967 and his wife, the former Genie Dorr in October 2005; a daughter; Donna L. Wolters of Mexico in August 2005.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Rumford Community Home and Hospice for the loving care given to him.
