Temporary travel route change approved for festival
LIVERMORE FALLS – Selectmen voted Tuesday to allow temporary changes to Foundry Road travel to accommodate the Apple Pumpkin Festival on Sept. 25, Town Manager Jim Chaousis said Wednesday.
The event sponsored by the Jay, Livermore, Livermore Falls Chamber of Commerce will be held between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Livermore Falls Recreation Field, located off Foundry Road.
The road will be one-way only for the festival with no parking on the left side, Chaousis said. The one-way will start behind the municipal building and go to Shuy Corner on Route 133.
Handicap accessibility will be from the parking lot near the skate park.
In other business, Chaousis said he reminded the board and public that nomination papers to fill the remainder of three-year term on the Regional School Unit 36 Board of Directors are available at the town office. Papers are due back by 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24.
Selectmen previously appointed Jackie Knight to fill the seat until the Nov. 2 election. The seat was vacated by Mac Haynes this summer. There will be about a year-and-a-half left on the three-year term.

No I don't have family that can help me. In fact not only am I raising my own children but I am also taking care of an ill parent. My son is special needs and there are no day cares that will take him with his needs so I have multiple barriers. I have tried to work and lost jobs because I was constantly called by the schools to get my son or to go to take care of a situation with him. Employers are not going to work with a person that needs constant time off to go to medical appointments with a child when there is such high unemployment and many people competing for the same jobs. If I could, I would work, but finding child care is impossible and finding a job that will work around the situation I am in has been impossible to date but I haven't given up.
