POLAND SPRING — Frederick H. Andrews Jr., 85, of Poland Spring, passed away at his home on Tuesday, Aug. 4.
He was born on Dec. 21, 1929, in Brockton, Mass., the son of Frederick H. Andrews Sr. and Grace Severance Andrews. He was raised in Whitman, Mass. He attended Aroostook State Normal School (now known as University of Maine at Presque Isle); received a bachelor’s from Gorham State Teachers College; Master of Education (Certificate of Advanced Graduated Studies) from the University of Maine in Orono. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955. He married Ermatrude S. “Trudy” Snow in July of 1955. They lived in Poland Spring for over 38 years after moving from Dixfield and Caribou. He taught school in Caribou and Loring Air Force Base; was the principal of Loring Air Force Base Damon School; was the superintendant of SAD 21 Dixfield then Union 29 (now known as RSU16) at which time he went into semi-retirement. During his retirement, he worked at Maine Wood Treaters, then H&R Block and finally retired from Just Taxes LLC. He was a 45-year member of the Lions Club and the retired Superintendant’s Association.
He is survived by his wife, Trudy; daughter, Melanie Brow of Acton; son, Philip and his partner, Debbie Paiment, of Casco; and son, Timothy of Casco; grandchildren, Jason Averill, Jill Averill, Christian Averill, Bethany Kubik, Frederick Culver, Jenna Andrews, Jay Andrews and Robert Andrews; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Spooner of Taunton, Mass.; sisters-in-law, Helen Raymond, Pauline Doolittle and Joan Andrews.
He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, William Andrews; and sons, Michael Andrews and Todd Andrews.
