Free fishing day to be held


GORHAM, N.H. – The White Mountain National Forest’s 15th annual Kids Free Fishing Day will be held Saturday, June 3, for age 15 and younger. Beginners and experienced anglers are welcome to join, and even non-anglers will find something to do. There is no charge for the day, no fishing license is necessary, and people from all states are welcome.

The day will begin with registration at 9 a.m. followed by fishing, a casting contest, learning stations and raffle prizes awarded at noon.

Learning stations will include information about watersheds, aquatic insects, fishing ethics and Leave No Trace. U.S. Forest Service Fisheries Biologist Jay Milot will offer one-on-one instruction in rigging gear and other topics.

Kids Free Fishing Day will happen rain or shine. Wildcat Pond is located at the Wildcat Ski Area on Route 16, south of Gorham. For more information, call the Forest Service at 466-2713 (TTY 603-466-2856).
