Free talk, seed swap to take root in Norway

NORWAY – A free talk on the organic seed movement will be presented by Moose Pond Arts+Ecology co-founder Scott Vlaun at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Commons, next door to the Fare Share Co-op, 445 Main St. It will be followed by a seed swap.

The talk, titled “The Organic Seed Movement, Working to Conserve our Genetic Heritage,” will focus on the problems that global seed stock suffers and the solutions to the problems.

As seed variety around the world dwindles, participants will learn what to do to preserve diversity and help insure that the foods have a place in the future. To help diversify seed stock, attendees are encouraged to bring their favorite seeds for an informal seed swap that will take place after the talk.

Vlaun, has traveled to document the global movement toward sustainable agriculture and biodiversity as a photographer, writer and editor and has been gardening organically for nearly three decades.

In addition to providing graphic design and photography services, Moose Pond Arts+Ecology works to promote regional self-reliance and sustainability practices.
