‘Frieda’ Rae Flint


FRYEBURG – (Frieda) Rae Flint of North Fryeburg, passed away on July 9.

She was born on Feb. 15, 1933, a daughter of Robert and Ester Shaw Flint. She attended North Fryeburg schools and graduated from Fryeburg Academy in 1951.

She was a wonderful, gentle person and caring humanitarian. She had worked in the offices of Baxter’s Corn Shops in both North Fryeburg and Fryeburg. She also did office work for Thurston’s Farms as well.

Rae also was an essential member of the family team in the operation of the Flint Nursing Home in North Fryeburg for many years. She became the postmistress of the North Fryeburg post office, which was located in her home for 22 years. When she retired the post office retired the North Fryeburg zip code.

She had been a member of the Universalist Chapel in North Fryeburg. She had also served as a loving caregiver for her mother, father, sister and niece during the latter years of their lives. Her interests included dancing, snowmobiling, gardening and the piano.

Her creativity was expressed through many crafts, including her penchant for decorated gourds and her excellent photography. She loved her time spent visiting the family camp in North Chatham and all the things to do with nature.

Survivors include her niece, Bette Shevlin of North Fryeburg; her nephew, Linwood Lord, and wife, Denise, of Warrenton, Va.; grandnieces, Amy Kahkonen, and husband, Duane, of Otisfield, Susan Klementovich, and husband, Joseph, of North Conway, N.H., and Stephanie Lauer, and husband, Jody, of Kennebunk; grandnephew, David Lord, and wife, Terri, of Arlington, Wash.; and her special little nieces and nephews who she thought so much of, Kenzie and Kori Kahkonen, Alex and Ben Klementovich, Joshua Lord and Chance Lauer.

She was predeceased by her parents; two sisters, Thelma Harmon and Marion Gain; and a niece, Eleanor Lord.
