FRYEBURG — Police said a local man was arrested Tuesday on domestic violence and other charges.
According to police, Eric Smith, 38, of Fryeburg was arrested at 3:30 p.m. and charged with domestic violence stalking, violating a protection from abuse order and violating conditions of release.
Police Chief Joshua Potvin said in a news release that police took Smith into custody at the Bridgton District Court, where he was scheduled to appear on a separate violation of the protection order.
Police said Smith had evaded apprehension over the weekend and refused to turn himself in, despite being told by officials that he was wanted.
Smith is being held without bail at the Oxford County Jail in Paris.
“We take domestic violence-related crimes very seriously and will hold those accountable for violating the law,” Potvin said. “We want to make certain victims receive the proper amount of police protection and resources that are available to help them through this emotionally charged process.”
