Fryeburg police say teen took bad drug trip on Saco River

FRYEBURG — Police said a weekend camping outing among buddies ended early for a Massachusetts teen when he had a bad trip on drugs.

Fryeburg Police Chief Joshua Potvin said 19-year-old Zachary Fenton, of Dorchester, Mass., was arrested Saturday near the Canal Bridge on the banks of the Saco River after police received a tip a man was hallucinating after ingesting illegal drugs.

Fenton was charged with a felony count of unlawful possession of scheduled drugs, according to Potvin. Police discovered 4 grams of crystal methamphetamine and more than half a gram of cocaine and seized $200 in cash.

“Fenton told officers he was having a bad trip and thought his hands were melting,” Potvin said in a news release.

“It is a dangerous situation any time we deal with someone who is under the influence. I’m pleased the officers were able to remove these drugs from our community without anyone getting seriously hurt,” Potvin said.

Fenton was treated at Bridgton Hospital. He is expected to appear Oct. 13 in Bridgton District Court.
