PARIS — A local businessman who wishes to remain anonymous decided to address the problem of local hunger while supporting local farmers. He donated $2000 to purchase five Community Supported Agriculture shares which will be divided among 20 or more seniors.
“I have over 100 eligible low-income seniors on a waiting list to receive surplus federal commodity food. The need is escalating, but resources aren’t available” reports Barbara Murphy, Extension Educator with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension in Oxford County.
Harvest Moon Produce in West Paris, LolliePapa Farm in West Paris, Thunder Hill Farm in Waterford, Kidd’s Hill Billy Farm in Sumner and Maple Springs Farm in Harrison are the farms that will be providing the weekly, fresh-from-the-field produce to the seniors.
