QUINCY, MASS. – George Alexander Baumann, 81, of Quincy, Mass., died July 9, at Quincy Rehab and Nursing Home.

Born and raised in Lewiston, he had been a Quincy resident for over 50 years. He was the owner/operator of Baumann Contracting, Quincy, for many years.

He was a member of the Delta Masonic Lodge AF and AM, St. Stephen’s Royal Arch and Knights Templar. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, cribbage and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was married for 59 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and served on a destroyer escort in Africa, as seaman 2nd class.

Survivors include his wife, Martha (McShane) Baumann; daughter, the Rev. Rebecca Baumann of Mansfield Center, Conn.; grandchildren, Timothy and his wife, Carolyn Bloomberg-O’Brien, of Quincy, and Devin M. O’Brien of Quincy; brother, Michael Baumann of Melbourne, Fla.; sisters, Bette Buchanan of Auburn, and Catherine Willette of Lewiston; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Manfra.
