George Calvin Nickerson
1938 – 2010
LAKELAND, Fla. — George C. Nickerson, 71, of Sabattus, went home to be with his Lord Wednesday, Feb. 24, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, due to pulmonary fibrosis and pneumonia.
He was born in Franklin, Aug. 17, 1938, the son of Wilbert W. and Sylvia (Dyer) Nickerson. He worked as a carpenter/contractor for a number of years and then as a chaplain and director of various Rescue Missions. He founded Hope Haven Gospel Mission in Lewiston.
He is survived by Dorothy, his wife of 51 years; and his five children, Mark and his wife, Sandy, of Dedham, Donald and his wife, Lorraine, of McAdam, New Brunswick, Janet and her longtime partner, Edward Brown of Stuart, Va., Nancy and her husband, Shawn Edwards, of Hebron and Rebecca and her husband, Ronald Edgerly, of Sabattus; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; a brother, Raymond Chase of Bangor; and two sisters, Louine Young of Seal Harbor and Liane Peach of Bar Harbor.
He was predeceased by his sister, Sylvia “Bunny” Clark.
