RUMFORD — Gerald J. Cote, 85, of Rumford passed away on Oct. 27, at home surrounded by family.
He was born on June 30, 1925, in Rumford, the son of Amedee Cote and Corrinne (Fisher) Cote.
On July 2, 1949, he married Yvette (Grenier) Cote, and had eight children. He worked at the paper mill in Rumford for 40 years.
He loved growing flowers, his vegetable garden, and this year he grew sunflowers more than 9 feet tall! Gerald and Yvette spent 17 years at Worthley Pond and enjoyed every minute, but Dad’s dream was to spend winters in Florida after he retired. The years he was there he enjoyed walking to the restaurant for breakfast and scratch tickets in the morning and lunch and bowling with all of his friends in the afternoon.
Gerald is survived by his children; a son, Gerald J. Cote Jr., and his wife, Jennie, of Barrington N.H.; a daughter, Constance M Shurtleff of South Paris; a son, Robert A Cote and companion, Jackie Brown, of Rumford; a son, Daniel R Cote, and his wife, Robin, of Mulvaine, Kan.; a daughter, Carol A Pingree of Mexico; a son, Richard J Cote and wife; Tammy; of Rumford; a daughter, Cynthia M Wardwell and companion, Carl Witas, of Canton; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends and family.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Yvette; and a son, David Cote.
