Gerard P. Tetu


WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Capt. Gerard (Jerry) P. Tetu, (Ret. USMC), of Winter Haven, Fla., passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 24, after a lingering illness.

Jerry was born in Brunswick, May 25, 1932, the son of Raoul and Lucille (Lamarre) Tetu. He grew up in Lewiston, graduating from St. Dominic High School, Class of 1950.

He joined the Marine Corps Reserve in 1949, with the Lewiston Unit, then to active duty in 1950, until his retirement as captain in 1971. He served in Korea and two tours in Vietnam.

He belonged to the American Legion Post 8 in Winter Haven, Fla. He and his wife moved to Winter Haven from Fort Lauderdale in 1995. He enjoyed boating, golfing and entertaining friends singing. He also enjoyed spending summers at their cottage on the lake in Wales.

Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline (Bernier) Tetu; his wife’s twin sister, Pauline Perham; aunt, Carmelle (Lamarre) Belanger; nieces, Denise Bowie and Renee Bernier; brother-in-law, Henry, and his wife, Monique Bernier, all of Lewiston; and a special nephew, Michael Champagne of Limington.

He was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Roger.
