Giants’ Bonds out of lineup again

PHOENIX (AP) – Barry Bonds was not in San Francisco’s starting lineup for the second straight day Thursday. But manager Felipe Alou said his slugger isn’t ailing.

“There’s no injury,” Alou said before the Giants’ game at Arizona. “He’s 100 percent going to play (Friday night at Colorado). Two days was going to be better than one day.”

Bonds, who has been bothered by knee and elbow injuries, took batting practice and was available as a pinch-hitter, Alou said. The Giants open a three-game series Friday night at Coors Field. Alou said it’s possible Bonds will rest again on Sunday, a day game after a night game.

Bonds is hitting .214 with no homers and one RBI in 28 at-bats. He needs seven home runs to pass Babe Ruth, who is second on the homer list with 714.

The Giants are 8-3 when Bonds plays and 0-3 when he doesn’t.
