Gilbert E. Maxim


MONMOUTH – Gilbert E. Maxim, 91, a life-long resident Monmouth, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, Jan 2.

He was born in Monmouth on May 22, 1915, a son of Albert and Christine Gilbert Maxim. He graduated from Mechanic Falls High School, Class of 1934.

He worked at Gammon’s Cabinet Factory in Lewiston, Bath Iron Works and for Bates Fabric Inc. in Lewiston for 33 years. He retired in 1980.

He enjoyed reading and gardening.

He leaves behind his daughter, MaryAnn Stevens, and her husband, Edward, of Litchfield; his son, Ronald Maxim, and his wife, Priscilla, of Greene; two sisters, Lillian Cote of Livermore Falls and Joicey Gosselin of Jay; his brother, Charles Crosby Jr., and wife, Natalie, of Lewiston; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; 11 stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Agnes Huntington Maxim in 1992; his brother, George Crosby; and two sisters, Thelma Horne and Arlene Grover.
