1926 – 2015
WINTHROP — Gilberte E. Bechard, 89, of Winthrop, died Sunday morning, Aug. 23, at the Heritage Rehabilitation and Living Center after a long illness, peacefully with her family at her side.
Born in Berlin, N.H., on July 14, 1926, the daughter of the late Alcide and Maria (Baillargeon) Boisvert.
She attended Auburn schools and then went on to work for several area shoe shops.
On May 28, 1949, she married Robert H. Bechard in Lisbon, who predeceased her in 2003.
Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, cooking, French music, road trips, especially to Canada and she loved going to church.
For many years she and her husband were parishioners of Holy Cross Church and later at Our Lady of the Rosary.
She is survived by three children, Delores Upton of South Carolina, Bert Bechard and his partner, Donna Eaves, of Oregon and Don Bechard and his wife, Debbie, of Monmouth; eight grandchildren, Eric, Alaina and Suzette Beaucage, Scott, Andrew, Jerod, Brandon and Angela Bechard; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; a sister, Aline Boisvert of Brunswick; two sisters-in-law, Jeannine Boisvert of Lewiston and Yvette Boisvert of Auburn; and many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by two sisters, Madeline Michaud and Joan Burgin; five brothers, Fernand, Reginald, Albert, Arthur and Norman Boisvert.
Gilberte’s family extends its deepest appreciation to the loving staff at Heritage Rehabilitation and Living Center, where she spent the last seven years of her life, and to Beacon Hospice staff and volunteers, who provided caring support in her final days.
