Girls’ basketball: Saints silence Wolverines


WISCASSET — After sprinting out to a seven-point lead in the first frame, St. Dom’s hustled to a 45-33 late-season win over Wiscasset in an MVC girls’ basketball tilt Tuesday.

Mary Caron led the Saints (5-9) with a game-high 14 points, while Callie Greco tallied eight and Allison Conley added seven.

The Wolverines (2-13) were paced by Kayla Connors with 12 points, while Brianna Goud chipped in with 11.

Oxford Hills 60, Brunswick 47

PARIS — The Oxford Hills girls’ squad jumped out to an 11-2 lead in the opening stanza and hustled off to post a 60-47 victory over Brunswick in a late-season KVAC matchup Tuesday.

Ashley West led the Vikings (7-8) with 17 points, while Abbie Eastman chipped in with nine points and 11 assists. Mikayla Morin also contributed with 15 points in a well-balanced attack.

The Dragons (4-11) were paced by Liz Faulkner with a game-high 23 points.

Madison 47,

Monmouth 22

MONMOUTH — Sam Bruce tossed in a game-high 11 points in a balanced attack as Madison jettisoned Monmouth 47-22 in girls’ basketball action Tuesday.

Following a low-scoring 5-5 first quarter, the Bulldogs (12-3) took advantage of several turnovers to open a lead and never looked back.

Kristen Wood contributed a double-digit tally of 10 points for Madison.

The Mustangs (7-9) struggled in a scoreless second quarter, trailing 22-5 at the midpoint. Molly Menice helped Monmouth get back into a grove over the next two frames, pacing the Mustangs with 10 game points.

Cony 64, Lewiston 42

AUGUSTA — Junior guard Mia Diplock pounded out 21 points to lead Cony to a 64-42 victory over Lewiston in KVAC girls’ basketball action Tuesday.

The Rams (15-0) created distance with each ensuing quarter, adding a 10-point advantage to the final score in the fourth frame.

Emily Sanford contributed 13 points on five field goals, including three from three-point range for Cony. Diplock also tossed three 3-pointers in the winning effort.

Sophomore guard Jenessa Talarico paced the Blue Devils (1-14) with a team-leading 11 points on four field goals and two free throws, including a pair from behind the arc.

EL 81, Erskine 20

AUBURN — Tianna Harriman, Crissy Lewis and Kory Norcross each hit for 15 points and Edward Little held Erskine Academy to single-digit scoring all four quarters as the Red Eddies ran over the Eagles, 81-20, in a girls’ basketball game Tuesday night.

By the end of the first half, EL (12-3) held a 43-10 lead. Ashley Norcross sank three 3-pointers and collectected 14 points. For Erskine (2-13), Hannah Bridges scored seven points.

Carrabec 44, Winthrop 33

WINTHROP — Emma Pluntke scored 12 points and Jocelyn Jackson added 11 as Carrabec (4-11) shook off Winthrop, 44-33, in a girls’ basketball game Tuesday night.

The winless Ramblers (0-14) held a 22-18 advantage before their shooting went cold and they only

scored one point in the third quarter

Winthrop’s Shauna Carlson scored 11 points.
