Girls’ high school roundup: Fox, Saints rip Ramblers

AUBURN — Sophomore second baseman Bethany Fox clubbed a three-run homer in the fifth inning to assist St. Dom’s in a 12-2 thumping over Winthrop in MVC softball action Friday.

The Saints (4-0) took advantage of walks and run-scoring singles to put up four runs in the first inning. Hannah Sterling improved her pitching record to 2-0 and recorded nine strike outs for St. Dom’s.

Sasha Flaherty posted a run-scoring single in the third inning for the Ramblers (1-2) in the losing effort.

Buckfield 13, Rangeley 0

RANGELEY — Heather Clavet tossed a one-hitter and fanned 14 to direct Buckfield to a 13-0 softball victory over Rangeley in a Class D softball game Friday.

The Bucks (2-1) opened with a 3-0 lead after two innings and put the game away with seven more in the fifth inning.

Sami Zak led the Bucks with three hits. Chantal Carrier took the los for the Lakers (2-2).

Jay 6, Dirigo 0

DIXFIELD — Paula Despres pitched a one-hitter as Jay waltzed to a 6-0 victory over Dirigo in softball action Friday afternoon.

The Tigers (5-0) scored their six runs on 11 hits, including three from Beth Moore. Brittany DiPompo and Alexi Deering contributed with round trippers.

Natalie Bolduc provided the Cougars (2-3) with their only hits, and added a stolen base to her personal statistics.

Belfast 1, Oak Hill 0

BELFAST — Pitcher Vickey Overlock struck out 10 and contributed a double at the plate as Belfast narrowly escaped with a 1-0 victory over Oak Hill in KVAC softball action Friday.

The Lions (2-4) scored the only run of the game in the second inning. Hayley Rae gathered up two of the Lion’s five hits.

Lauren Hall suffered her first mound loss of the year for Oak Hill as the Raiders (5-1) struggled to give her any material support on offense.

Messalonskee 12, Lewiston 0

OAKLAND —Messalonskee (6-1) used three hits, two errors and a walk to score five runs in the fourth inning to overpower Lewiston with a 12-0 softball victory Friday afternoon.

Messalonskee used a nine-hit attack and held a 7-0 lead before finishing off the Blue Devils in the fourth.

Pitcher Kai Smith threw the no-hit shutout and catcher Alyssa Eugley drove in two runs on three hits. Jess Sudy also had three hits and knocked in a couple of runs.

The Blue Devils (2-5) made nine errors.

Fryeburg 13, Gray-NG 4

FRYEBURG — Winning pitcher Sarah Harriman struck out 13 batters and tripled as undefeated Fryeburg Academy (8-0) dismantled Gray-New Gloucester with a 13-4 win in a softball game Friday afternoon.

The Raiders jumped out to a 9-1 lead after four innings and then punched in six runs in the sixth inning

Harriman drove in three runs and had a two-run single. Charlotte Lewis smacked a solo homer in the second inning Michelle Rascoe hammered a two-run double in the first inning as Fryeburg collected 12 hits for the day.

Alex Thompson doubled for Gray-New Gloucester (2-4).

Skowhegan 8, EL 2

SKOWHEGAN — Katy Esty struck out eight batters and Skowhegan erupted for five runs in the opening inning, easily beating Edward Little, 8-2, in a softball game Friday.

Skowhegan (4-3) used 11 hits to shelve the Red Eddies (4-3).

Anna Lorette belted a two-run homer in the first inning for Skowhegan. Kory Norcross came across with two hits for Edward Little. The Red Eddies had five hits for the day and commited two errors.

Lacrosse

Lewiston 22, Lincoln 13

NEWCASTLE — Lewiston erupted with 15 goals in the second half and Saba Naji and Lauren Lessard each contributed four goals apiece as Lewiston vanquished Lincoln Academy 22-13 in a girls’ lacross game Friday.

The game was tied 7-7 before the Blue Devils (2-3) went on a scoring spree in the second half.

Kirstin McCombs and Sara Marden each turned in a hat trick and Kayla Hamel, Emily Paione and Mariah Carrier each scored two apiece for Lewiston.

For Lincoln (1-4), Karina Belle score four goals and Charlotte Nutt added three.

Mt. Ararat 14, Edward Little 6

TOPSHAM — Rowley Jones and Callie Kirk scored three goals each, and the defense limited Edward Little to just seven shots as Mt. Ararat rolled to a 14-6 triumph over the Red Eddies.

The Eagles (4-1) took charge early, opening up a 10-1 lead by halftime.

Shelby Russell led the Red Eddies (0-4) with three goals, while Miranda Casey, Hannah Johnston and Saydi Voisine also scored a goal.

Taylor Landry was credited with 10 saves in goal for EL.

Mtn. Valley 14, Camden Hills 10

RUMFORD — Junior center Ayla Allen recorded half of the scoring production with seven goals to lead Mountain Valley to a 14-10 triumph over Camden Hills in girls’ lacrosse action Friday afternoon.

The Windjammers (0-3) scored first, but the Falcons got off to a fast start with three tallies. And, after another single posting, Mountain Valley popped off four more.

Maddie Buckley paced the Windjammers with five goals in the losing effort.
