Girls’ roundup: EL’s Arnold scores 1,000th point

AUBURN — Senior guard Ashlee Arnold scored a whopping 28 points and earned her 1,000th career point as Edward Little edged Lawrence, 63-56, in KVAC girls’ basketball action Friday.

Arnold scored 16 of her 28 points in the fourth quarter, leapfrogging the Red Eddies (8-2) from an eight-point deficit to a seven-point victory.

Kory Norcross provided Edward Little with 12 points, while Tianna Harriman chipped in with 10 points.

Freshman center Nia Irving had an impressive outing, scoring a team-leading 17 points for the Bulldogs (6-4). Dominique Lewis contributed 13 points, while Paige Belanger added 10 for Lawrence in the losing effort.

Mt. Blue 54, Lewiston 29

LEWISTON — Miranda Nicely drained 14 points in a balanced attack as Mt. Blue routed Lewiston 54-29 in KVAC girls’ basketball action Friday.

The Blue Devils (3-7) closed the scoring gap in the second quarter to trail by just two, 25-23 at the half. Sophomore guard Emily Brochu posted eight points for Lewiston.

The Cougars (7-3) held Lewiston to just six second-half points as they secured 29 points in the stanza. Joyce Jenckes chipped in with 11 points for Mt. Blue.

Madison 59, Lisbon 29

MADISON — Sophomore forward Bronte Elias poured in a game-high 17 points to lead Madison to a 59-29 triumph over Lisbon in MVC girls’ basketball action Friday.

The Bulldogs (8-2) took a bite out of Lisbon in the second quarter with a 25-8 run. Sam Bruce and Kirsten Wood contributed 12 points each for Madison.

Senior forward Denise Thomas notched a team-leading 13 points for the Greyhounds (2-7).

Oak Hill 56, Mountain Valley 49

WALES — Sophomore guard Hayley Marshall recorded 15 points as Oak Hill spread out its scoring evenly in a 56-49 victory over Mtn. Valley in MVC girls’ basketball action Friday.

The Raiders (5-5) had a 28-22 lead at halftime. Grace Sabine registered a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds for Oak Hill.

Darbi Brown posted a game-high 20 points on eight field goals, including four from three point range, for the Falcons.

Leavitt 58, MCI 34

TURNER — Senior guard Jenna Cote tickled the twine with 17 points as Leavitt buzzed to a 58-34 victory over MCI in KVAC girls’ basketball action Friday.

The Hornets (9-1) jumped out to a 34-20 halftime lead. Junior guard Bri DeGone chipped in with 10 points.

Ashley Alton led the Huskies (0-10) with two field goals, including a trey, and four free throws for nine points.

Gray-NG 68, Fryeburg 43

FRYEBURG — Senior guard Haylee Cote collected 17 points to lead Gray-New Gloucester to a 68-43 victory over Fryeburg in WMC girls’ basketball action Friday.

Cote recorded four of her five three-pointers and 14 of her 17 points in the first half. Maria Valente contributed 13 points for the Patriots (7-2).

Stephanie Greaton posted a double-digit rebound count of 11 for Gray-New Gloucester.

Junior center Sky Dole provided a team-leading 14 points for the Raiders (2-8).

Dirigo 41, Winthrop 33

WINTHROP — Kelsey Hutchins scored 13 points and Dirigo came away with a 41-33 win over Winthrop in an MVC girls’ basketball game Friday evening.

Hutchins led a balanced attack of seven different scorers for the Cougars (8-2). Cat Ouellette scored a game-high 15 points for the Ramblers (1-9).

Oxford Hills 52, Messalonskee 27

OAKLAND — Crystal West scored 13 points, including three 3-pointers, to lead Oxford Hills past Messalonskee, 52-27, in KVAC girls’ basketball.

Eleven different players scored for the Vikings (7-3).

Carrabec 46, Wiscasset 33

WISCASSET— Brooklynne Lewis and Emma Pluntke each scored eight points to push Carrabec over Wiscasset, 46-33, in MVC girls’ basketbal.

The Cobras held the Wolverines to one point in the first quarter and protected the lead the rest of the way. Alecia Faulkingham had eight points to lead Wiscasset.

Lewiston 5, Mt. Ararat 0

LEWISTON — Junior forward Mikaela St.Laurent and sophomore center Erica Lemieux scored two goals apiece as Lewiston shut out Mt. Ararat 5-0 in girls’ ice hockey action Friday.

Goalie Brianna Lajoie earned the win in net for the Blue Devils (11-3).
