Girls’ roundup: Phoenix hold off Raiders, 38-31


WALES — Kailee Newcomb piled up 15 points as undefeated Spruce Mountain (12-0) sidestepped Oak Hill (6-7) with a 38-31 victory in a girls’ basketball game Friday.

Oak Hill had the upperhand, taking a slim 18-17 lead at halftime. For the Raiders, Hayley Marshall scored seven points.

Oxford Hills 54, Lewiston 28

PARIS — Oxford Hills held Lewiston to two points in first quarter and eight in the half Friday night, setting the tone for a 54-28 KVAC girls’ basketball rout.

Alex Rowe led the Vikings (8-4) with 15 points. Kelsey DeBlois added nine points and Abbie Eastman dished out nine assists. Jenessa Talarico topped the Blue Devils (3-9) with seven points.

Hall-Dale 74, Telstar 43


FARMINGDALE — Allison Crockett led a dozen Hall-Dale players in the scoring column with 13 points Friday night, and the Bulldogs banged out a 74-43 MVC girls’ basketball win over Telstar.

Nicole Pelletier added 11 points for the Bulldogs. Victoria Ryerson led the Rebels (0-12) with 11. Rebecca Howard registered nine and Alyssa Brands chipped in eight.

Gray-NG 71, Yarmouth 35

YARMOUTH — Maria Valente piled up 26 points and teammate Michele Dehetre knocked down 4 3-pointers for 12 points as Gray-New Gloucester stepped on Yarmouth, 71-35, in a girls’ basketball game Friday.

The Patriots (9-2) glided to a 38-16 lead at halftime. Valente also pulled down 15 rebounds and Stephanie Greaton grabbed 13 with her six points. Haylee Cote tossed in 19 points.

For winless Yarmouth (0-12), Monica Austin had 10 points.

Boothbay 42, Mt. Abram 38

SALEM — Senior forward Allison Crocker scored a team-high 13 points to lead Boothbay to a 42-38 triumph over Mt. Abram in MVC girls’ basketball action Friday.

The Seahawks (11-2) got off to a fast start and led by as much as 13 in the first half. Sarah Caron chipped in with 11 points for Boothbay.

The Roadrunners (6-7) made up some ground in the second half, trailing by just two in the final minutes of regulation. But a couple of missed opportunities and the need to foul in the final seconds sealed the Seahawks’ victory.

Senior guard Mikayla Luce had a team-high 13 points for Mt. Abram, while Miranda Smith pitched in with 11 points.

Rangeley 63, Valley 30

BINGHAM — Sophomore forward Taylor Esty posted a team-high 15 points in a well-balanced attack as Rangeley doubled up Valley 63-30 in EWC girls’ basketball action Friday.

The Lakers (9-1) had a watershed second quarter with a 19-2 run for a 31-9 halftime lead. Blayke Morin contributed 14 points, while Seve Deery-DeRaps recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Junior guard Teagan Lawyerson tossed in seven field goals, including one from three-point range, to register a team-high 15 points for the Cavaliers.

Monmouth 62, Carrabec 45

MONMOUTH — Sierra Spencer tossed an impressive 21 points to lead Monmouth to a 62-45 victory over Carrabec in girls’ basketball action Friday.

The Mustangs (8-3) had a modest 22-19 halftime lead. Kylie Kemp contributed 13 points for Monmouth

The Cobras (5-7) recoiled a bit in the third quarter, scoring just nine points to the Mustang’s 18 tallies.

Jessica Vaillancourt provided five field goals, including three from beyond the arc, for 13 points for Carrabec.
