Girls’ roundup: Schultz, Verrier lift Vikings


FARMINGTON — Dayna Schultz roped a run-scoring triple in the fifth inning to lift Oxford Hills to a 1-0 shutout victory over Mt. Blue in KVAC softball action Friday afternoon.

Allyson Snow initiated the offense in the fifth inning with a walk for the Vikings (5-1). Pinch runner Lindsay Fox was caught trying to steal third, but Ashley West, who had walked, advanced to second on the play. Schultz proceeded to plate the only Oxford Hills’ run with a triple.

Taryn Howard took the hard luck loss for the Cougars (2-4). Heather Verrier notched her first no-hitter with three strikeouts over the seven-inning outing for Oxford Hills.

Jay 3, Dirigo 1

JAY — Paula Despres scattered six hits and received adequate run support as Jay hustled to a 3-1 victory over Dirigo in MVC softball action Friday.

Beth Moore led the Tigers (4-2) with an RBI double. Jay held a 2-0 advantage until the sixth inning.

Morgan Hutchins led the Cougars (3-3) with a pair of hits, while Mariah Larson and Tasha Deroche belted doubles. Kyme Dolloff went the distance and was tagged with the loss.

Hampden 15, Lewiston 6

LEWISTON — The Hampden softball squad erupted for nine runs in the eighth inning and pulled away to a 15-6 victory over Lewiston in a KVAC matchup Friday.

Kathy Gilio belted an RBI single in the eighth to spark the big rally. Alexa Salley and Ashley Danforth chipped in with two hits each for Hampden (3-5), while Brittany Luntgen also belted a pair of hits.

Carly Denis led the Blue Devils (0-8) with three hits and two RBIs, while Kati Dumais added a pair of hits. Christi Melanson earned the win for Hampden while Dumais was tagged with the loss.

Monmouth 12, Boothbay 0

MONMOUTH — Bri Hicks hurled five innings of no-hit softball and drew ample run support as Monmouth cruised to a 12-0 romp over Boothbay in a MVC matchup Friday.

Kelsie Hilton led the Mustangs (3-2) with two hits and four RBIs, while sister Kristi Hilton chipped in with two RBIs in the second inning. Lindsay Smith also contributed with two RBIs in that six-run second inning.

Meghan Smith went the distance for Boothbay and suffered the loss.

Mt. Abram 6, Carrabec 5

SALEM — Kylie Rolbiecki belted an RBI single in the sixth inning to lift Mt. Abram to a 6-5 victory over Carrabec in an MVC softball tilt Friday.

Rolbiecki led the Roadrunners (3-2) with two hits and one RBI, while Alix Howard earned the mound win in relief of the injured Molly McCafferty.

The Cobras (2-4) were generous in the sixth, with five walks and multiple errors leading to their demise.

Lawrence 6, Edward Little 5

AUBURN — Megan Moen reached based with an RBI double, then Sophie Linsday drove her across the plate to lift Lawrence to a 6-5 victory over Edward Little in a torrid KVAC softball matchup.

Jess Poulin led the Bulldogs (2-4) with three hits and two RBIs, while Lindsay and Lisa Jordan added two hits each.

Emily Johnson led the Red Eddies (4-2) with two hits and three RBIs, while Kayla Nadeau and Emily Grund each belted a pair of hits.

Oak Hill 4, Belfast 3

WALES — Lauren Hall pitched a complete-game victory for Oak Hill as the Raiders grabbed a 4-3 victory over Beflast in softball action Friday.

Taylro Fillion and Lauren Hall had two hits and an RBI apiece for the Raiders (6-0).

Caroline Carr produced a two-run home run for the Lions (2-4) to even up the score at 2-2 in the second inning.

Telstar 7, Madison 0

MADISON — Winning pitcher Kayla Merrill had eight strikeouts and Nicena Walker punched up a two-run double in the first inning as undefeated Telstar (4-0) walked away from Madison (2-3) with a 7-0 victory in a softball game Friday.

The Rebels built a 5-0 lead by the second inning. Walker and teammate Lindsey James each had two hits.

Cape Elizabeth 9, Poland 2

POLAND — Ally Boyington scattered six hits and helped her own cause at the plate to lead Cape Elizabeth to a 9-2 victory over Poland in an WMC softball tilt Friday.

Emily Donovan belted two hits for the Capers (2-4), including an RBI triple, while Boyington, Gabe Donohue and Delanie Rockwell all had two hits. Donahue and Rockwell combined for two RBIs.

The Knights (0-7) were led by Colleen Murphy and Celeste Knowles with two hits apiece. Knowles turned heads when she smacked an over-the-fence home run in the sixth inning.

Lisbon 11, Wiscasset 6

LISBON — The Lisbon softball squad erupted for six runs in the first inning and raced away to a 11-6 victory over Wiscasset in MVC action Friday.

Kimber Morse led the Greyhounds (5-1) with a two-run single to ignite the first-frame explosion. Lisbon scored six runs on four walks and one error to take control early on. Brooke Lawrence also contributed with an RBI triple in the second.

Wiscasset (0-7) was led by Alli Johnson with an RBI double in the first inning. Morse earned the mound win for Lisbon, while Megan Corson suffered the loss.

Fryeburg 10, Gray-NG 4

GRAY — Heather Tripp scored three runs and produced a pair of RBIs to lead Fryeburg to a 10-4 triumph over Gray-New Gloucester in softball action Friday.

The Raiders (8-0) scattered nine well-placed hits across the middle innings to secure their total runs. Maggie McConkey chipped in with a triple for Fryeburg.

The Patriots (5-1) were led offensively by Kassie Wilson with a home run and Abby Ryan with a triple.Laura Getchell went the distance on the mound, fanning 11 batters for Gray-New Gloucester in the losing effort.


Hebron 11, Kents Hill 6

HEBRON — Sarah Markey netted four goals and an assist to lead Hebron to an 11-6 triumph over Kents Hill in girls’ lacrosse action Friday.

The Lumberjacks held a 6-3 lead at the half and managed to maintian offensive pressure with a 5-3 clip in the second stanza. Janelle Bradish added three goals and an assist.

Thaney Cockrell paced the Huskies with three goals and an assist in the losing effort.

Maggie Lane had a strong game in net, recording 19 saves for Hebron.
