Girls’ roundup: Townsend’s slam lifts Andies

DIXFIELD — Kaitlin Townsend belted a grand slam in the top of the seventh inning to lift Livermore Falls to a 7-4 victory over Dirigo in MVC softball action Wednesday.

Townsend led the Andies (4-5) with two hits and four RBIs, while Sam Greemwood contributed two hits and one RBI. Townsend also earned the win, giving up seven hits in seven innings of work.

Katrina Pulk led the Cougars (4-4) with home runs in the third and sixth innings. Morgan Hutchins chipped in with two hits and one RBI.

Georges Valley 10, St. Dom’s 3

THOMASTON — Unbeaten Georges Valley scored four runs in the fourth and fifth innings to overcome an early deficit and pull away for a 10-3 victory over St. Dom’s in an MVC softball game Wednesday.

The Saints scored the game’s first two runs and held a 2-1 advantage in the fourth before the Buccaneers erupted the consecutive four-run innings. Katelyn Rich’s single with the bases loaded in the fourth drove in two runs and sent Georges Valley (6-0) on its way.

Meg Poulin and Meg Lawrence each had a pair of hits for the Saints (4-4), with Lawrence and Sara Gosselin hitting doubles.

Jay 9, Madison 4

JAY — Paula Despres scattered eight hits and drew ample run support as Jay hustled to a 9-4 victory over Madison in MVC softball Wednesday afternoon.

Alexi Smith led the Tigers (5-3) with two hits and three RBIs, including a two-run double in the first. Jay jumped out to a 6-0 advantage in the first frame and was never challenged.

Erica Parker and Myla Smith led the Bulldogs (3-5) with two hits each, while Emily Berry suffered the loss.

Mt. Blue 14, Lewiston 2

FARMINGTON — The Mt. Blue softball squad erupted for nine runs in the first inning and raced away to a 14-2 victory over Lewiston in KVAC softball action Wednesday.

The Cougars (3-5) put up six hits, while Lewiston made six errors in that damaging first frame. Michaela Yeaton, Kelly Yardley, Hannah Allen and Lindsey St. Laurent all belted two hits for Mt. Blue in a well-balanced attack.

The winless Blue Devils (0-8) were paced by Carly Denis and Katie Dumais with two hits apiece. Mariah Conway worked the first two innings and was tagged with the loss.

Mt. Abram 8, Mountain Valley 7

SALEM — Mt. Abram rallied back from a 5-1 deficit with a seven-run fifth inning and hung on for a 8-7 victory over Mountain Valley in an MVC softball tilt Wednesday.

Molly McCafferty belted an RBI double in the fifth to ignite the fifth-inning rally. McCafferty also picked up the mound win, scattering five hits in seven innings.

Brooke Dolloff led the Falcons (3-4) with a home run in the seventh inning and three RBIs overall. Shelby Moore, McKenzie Patterson and Kristin Ridge all contributed two hits each. Moore also handled pitching duties and suffered the loss.

Hebron 17, Gould 10

HEBRON — The Hebron softball squad jumped out to a 8-1 advantage in the first inning and hustled to a 17-10 win over Gould in a high-scoring prep school softball tilt Wednesday.

Emma Valli led Hebron with a pair of doubles, while Courtney Vallee, Kaitlyn Paiton and Emily Wyman all belted doubles.

Telstar 12, Carrabec 4

NORTH ANSON — Kayla Merrill scattered five hits, struck out 11 and drew excellent run support as Telstar raced away to a 12-4 MVC victory over Carrabec on Wednesday.

Merrill also led the undefeated Rebels (7-0) at the plate with two hits and one RBI, while her sister Lindsay chipped in with two hits and one RBI. Hannah Morin and Katie Sumner also contributed with two hits each.

The Cobras (2-6) were paced by Ashlee Knight with two hits and one RBI. Lacey Fenalson worked the first two frame and was tagged with the loss.

Oak Hill 3, Winslow 0

WALES — Becca Tucci went 2-for-3 to lead Oak Hill to a 3-0 victory over Winslow in softball action Wednesday.

The Black Raiders (4-4) outhit the Raiders (8-0) by a margin of 8-4. Julie Riordan, Katie Bernard and Kristen Loubier collected two hits apiece.

The Raiders (8-0) were advanced by Alexis Priest, who plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning with a single.

Monmouth 9, Winthrop 4

MONMOUTH — Monmouth went on an eight-run stampede in the third and fourth innings as the Mustangs took a 5-1 decision from Winthrop in softball action Wednesday.

Erin Belanger and Sasha Flaaherty contributed a double each for the Ramblers.

Kelsi Hilton collected a double and two RBIs to lead the Mustang (4-3) offense in the winning effort.

Poland 8, Freeport 7

POLAND — Colleen Murphy executed a bases-loaded, line-drive single in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Poland to an 8-7 victory over Freeport.

The Knights rounded up five runs in three innings to take an early 5-1 lead, but gave up four runs to Freeport in the top of the fourth. Poland went back-and-forth with Freeport over the next two innings before Murphy plated Celeste Knowles for the walkoff win.

Murphy, Knowles and Katrina Seeley had three hits apiece for the Knights.

Andrea Grant paced Freeport with a triple and four RBIs in the losing effort.

Lacrosse

EL 14, Camden Hills 1

AUBURN — Sam Dean scored four goals and teammates Kate Sawyer and Saydi Voisine each added three more as Edward Little rolled to a lopsided 14-1 win over Camden Hills in a girls’ lacrosse game Wednesday.

By halftime, the Red Eddies (2-5) held an 8-0 lead.

Winless Camden Hills (0-6) got on the board in the second half when Sarah Leidinger scored.

Rounding out the scoring with one goal apiece were Shelbea Russell, Katie Williamson, Hannah Johnston and Miranda Casey.
