'Give me your tired, your poor …'

I did not vote for the current president, and I am looking forward to ending his presidency in 2020. That said, I do feel that the current citizens of the greatest country in this world — the United States of America — need to examine and revise, if necessary, the nation’s immigration policies and procedures. This should be done with the following in mind:

“Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

From a sonnet by Emma Lazarus in 1883, which has been at the base of the Statue of Liberty since 1903.
