DIXFIELD — Gloria (Packard) Holt, 83, passed away at her home on Coburn Avenue in Dixfield on Tuesday, Feb. 14, with her loving family by her side.
She was born in Mexico, June 8, 1928, the daughter of Elwin B. Packard Sr. and Ezma (Virgin) Packard. Upon her graduation from Mexico High School in 1945, Gloria went to work at the Oxford Paper Co. in the Research and Development Department.
She was married on June 8, 1947 to Robert “Tink” Holt of Dixfield and they enjoyed 64 years together. Gloria was a stay-at-home mom until her three children were grown, and in 1977 she went to work for Diamond International Corportation. After their retirement in 1987, she and Tink traveled across Canada to British Columbia and back through the northern United States with cousins Gerald and Jean Holt. The foursome also cruised to Bermuda in 1986, and Gloria and Tink spent several winters in Florida with their daughter and son-in-law.
Gloria also enjoyed a trip to England and Scotland with her best friend, Eve Kidder. She had many friends and neighbors and especially enjoyed the weekly card games with Ruthanne, Carolyn, Pat, Maxine and Maddy.
Gloria’s hobbies included gardening, bird watching, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, reading and had a talent for sewing, crocheting and braiding rugs. She loved to go “May Flowering” and berrying with her good friend, Linda, and she enjoyed many summers at camp in Oquossoc, Weld and Four Ponds. She was also a member of the Dixfield Social Club, Ludden Library and the Church on the Hill in Dixfield.
She was a devoted wife, mother and “Nanna” to her five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, and she loved her animals. Family and friends came first to her and she left us with so many wonderful memories.
