Gov. LePage’s bad idea

0

Here we go again, with another one of Gov. Paul LePage’s brilliant ideas. He wants to do away with most of the toll booths on the Maine Turnpike. He says it will be good for local Mainers because we won’t have to pay to use the Turnpike.

That is all well and good, but if you take away the toll booths, now you are taking away money for fixing roads. And everyone knows how awesome the roads are.

Not to worry though, he says. He will make up for that loss by increasing the tax on gasoline — like we need that.

Everyone knows how the gas prices go up and down like a yo-yo.

The only time I use the Turnpike is if I am going 250 miles north and want to get there fast. If I am not in a hurry and don’t want to ride the highway and pay the tolls, I just open my trusty map of Maine and take the back roads. It takes longer but I get to see the countryside.

Someone needs to tell LePage that if it’s not broke, don’t fix it.
