Moratorium stays

Issue: The 90-day moratorium putting off medical marijuana dispensaries in town was set to expire at the end of the month.

The scoop: Selectmen renewed it for another 90 days or until town meeting.

Up next: Language may be included in the warrant in June related to marijuana dispensaries. That language isn’t available yet.

One less staffer

Issue: After seven years, Tax Collector Rani Allard is leaving.

The scoop: At Town Manager Rick Bates’ suggestion, selectmen named office Clerk Judy Fournier as the new tax collector and split Allard’s other duties in-house. Selectmen couldn’t agree on whether the new duties ought to come with a stipend so for now, no stipend.

Up next: Bates said leaving Fournier’s position vacant results in a savings of $15,000, plus benefits, to the town.

Odds and ends

Issue: Selectmen and the Budget Committee will meet next Tuesday, hopefully firming up the proposed budget. They’re working against a May 4 deadline.

Issue: The Sabattus Fun Festival will be July 22.
