Government at a glance: Turner

Board: Turner Selectmen

Met: Tuesday night

Mow town

Issue: Turner has 21 municipal areas to mow in the summertime, including ball fields and seven cemeteries.

The scoop: Selectmen opened bids and hired Gilbert Lawn Care for $7,200 to keep all that maintained, plus $600 to mow the landfill once.

Town House, revisited

Issue: Bids for repair work on the Old Town House came in with no one company wanting to tackle the entire project. So, it was broken up into four projects.

The scoop: Those separate bids came in too high, compared to budget.

Up next: Selectmen asked the town manager to try to renegotiate those bids. They also gave permission to apply for a grant to the Davis Family Foundation for future work.

Board seats

Issue: The board re-elected Angelo Terreri as chairman and Jeffrey Timberlake as the new vice chairman.

Save the dates

Issue: Turner, Leeds and Greene residents will gather May 4 at 6 p.m. at Leavitt Area High School to vote on a school budget. On May 11, residents will vote again in their respective towns from 1 to 7 p.m. to reaffirm whatever figure is arrived at on May 4.

Issue: Sabattus, Leeds, Greene and Turner will have a quad-town selectmen’s meeting May 20 at the Sabattus town office. They get together roughly quarterly, often about county business.
