One thing I cannot understand about the Sun Journal is its acute tendency to downplay the successes and achievements of Gov. Baldacci’s Dirigo Health initiatives. Just recently, though not reported in the Sun Journal, Dirigo Health was named by the Ash Institute as one of the top 50 programs at any level of government in the United States of America.
Mainers should be proud of what Gov. Baldacci is accomplishing for them. When 48,000 residents of New Hampshire became uninsured over a four-year period, the number of Mainers with insurance increased by 8,000. Dirigo Health is currently saving Maine’s health industry over $43.3 million. As a lifelong Mainer, I would like to thank Gov. Baldacci for providing for Maine what the federal government could not.
