GRAY AND NEW GLOUCESTER — Voters in Gray and New Gloucester will be asked to approve 17 warrant articles to fund SAD 15 schools in 2011-12 at a district budget meeting on Thursday.
The meeting begins with voter registration at 6 p.m. at the Gray-New Gloucester High School Cafetorium in Gray on Thursday. The meeting commences at 6:30 p.m.
The budget to fund five district schools totals $20,454,201, an increase of $764,258 over the current year’s funding.
School officials say the budget, even with an increase, does not raise assessment; in fact, the proposed 2011-12 school budget results in a decrease in taxes for Gray and New Gloucester.
“The decrease in assessment is possible due to careful planning and appropriate use of federal stimulus and Jobs Bills funding,” Alan Rich, chairman of the 11 member school board, said.
If the budget is approved, then voters on June 14 at a district referendum would validate the vote at the polls.
