Greyhounds come back at Bulldogs

LISBON – Joe Stevens scampered home on a wild pitch after a failed squeeze attempt in the bottom of the sixth to score the winning run as Lisbon edged Madison 8-7 in MVC baseball action Wednesday.

Andy Ouellette collected three hits, including a double and two RBIs, as the Greyhounds (8-4) rallied from a 6-0 deficit. Payton Austin (3-2) collected the victory on the mound, throwing four innings in relief of starter Andrew Dubois.

Dan Calagher took the loss on the hill for Madison (3-5), which led 6-0 through the top of the third inning. Calagher was also one of four Bulldogs with at least two hits.

Winthrop 9, Telstar 0

WINTHROP – Catcher Tavis Hasenfus went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, two RBIs and three runs scored to lead Winthrop to a 9-0 victory over Telstar in an MVC baseball contest Wednesday.

Travis Frautten went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Rusty Smelzer added two hits for the Ramblers (6-2). Corey Gillespie pitched a complete-game, two-hit shutout on the mound for Winthrop.

Livermore Falls 8, Wiscasset 5

LIVERMORE FALLS – Mike Durrell had two hits, including a two-run homer in the sixth, and finished with three RBIs to lead Livermore Falls to an 8-5 victory over Wiscasset.

Jack Marceau went the distance, striking out 10 batters and walking three to earn his third victory of the season for the Andies (3-6-1). Zack Keene belted a solo home run in the sixth, while Matt Cotnoir had two hits and a double for Livermore Falls.

St. Dom’s 3, NYA 1

AUBURN – Brady Blackman and Tom Edgecomb belted two hits apiece Wednesday to pace St. Dom’s to a 3-1 victory over North Yarmouth Academy in baseball action.

The Saints (8-1) exploded for three runs in the sixth inning, thanks in part to a pair of wild pitches. Andy Allen ripped an RBI single for St. Dom’s. Matt Kohler earned the mound win, working in relief of starter Joe Bonneau.

Rangeley 12, Averill 2

RANGELEY – Ben Bliss belted out three hits and had two RBIs to lead Rangeley to a 12-2 victory over Averill in baseball action Wednesday.

Luke Hammond contributed for the Lakers (4-3) with a two-run home run in the first inning.

Averill (0-7) was paced by Cory Groves with two hits. Groves also handled pitching duties and was tagged with the loss.

Buckfield 9, Sacopee Valley 0

SOUTH HIRAM – Matt Lowell went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI to lead Buckfield to a 9-0 win against Sacopee Valley in baseball action on Wednesday.

Catcher Chris Reuter had two hits, including a double and drove in a run for Buckfield (12-1). Jamie Henderson pitched five innings to pick up his fifth win for the Bucks.

Mt. Blue 4, Leavitt 3

TURNER – Starting pitcher Justin Lowe drove home the winning run in the 10th inning as Mt. Blue stung Leavitt 4-3 in KVAC baseball action Wednesday.

Lowe, who had been relieved in the sixth inning, re-entered the game as pitcher in the seventh and gave up the tying run to make it 3-3. Lowe redeemed himself in the 10th inning by taking advantage of a two-out dropped ball in the infield. He smashed a single to plate the winning run for the Cougars (6-5).

Nick Letourneau and Scott Redmun pitched five strong innings apiece for the Hornets (1-10).

Poland 14, Lake Region 10

NAPLES – Eric Picard had three hits, including a double, four RBIs and two runs scored, to lead Poland to a 14-10 victory over Lake Region.

Joe Douglass had three hits with a pair of doubles and three runs scored, while Tyler Merchant had four hits for the Knights (5-4). Poland starting pitcher Brent Cary got the win on the mound and hit a solo home run and a double at the plate. Lake Region catcher Nick Mullins belted a two-run homer in the first and a solo home run in the fifth for three RBIs in the game.

Hebron 12, Gould 1

HEBRON – Hebron catcher Will Sorkin went 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored as Hebron crushed Gould 12-1 in an MAISAD playoff semi-final game Wednesday.

Jose Gumbs had two hits and three RBIs, while Ben Hall went 3-for-3 and Mike Turk had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored for Hebron (6-5). Hebron starting pitcher Josh Shanbaum scattered four hits and two walks for one run in four innings to earn the win.

Mt. Ararat 6, Oxford Hills 2

SOUTH PARIS – Jordan Bichrest hurled seven innings of four-hit baseball and helped himself at the plate with three hits as Mt. Ararat rolled past Oxford Hills 6-2 in KVAC action Wednesday.

Tristan French and Brandon Wyman chipped in for the Eagles (8-3) with two hits each.

The Vikings (6-5) were paced by Chris Roy and Dan Millet with RBI doubles.

Lacrosse

Gardiner 4, Mountain Valley 3

RUMFORD – Colby Peckham scored a game-high three goals to carry Gardiner to a 4-3 victory over Mountain Valley in a boys’ lacrosse matchup Wednesday. Sean Green added a goal for the Tigers (8-0).

Chris Lowell netted a pair of goals and Brendan Bradley also scored for Mountain Valley (3-4).

Wiscasset 9, EL 1

WISCASSET – Caleb Jones netted four goals and dished off two assists to lead Wiscasset to a 9-1 victory over Edward Little in a KVAC boy’s lacrosse matchup.

Adam Snell chipped in for the Redskins (6-2) with two goals, while single tallies by Stephen Bailey, Coady Rolfson and K.C. Mullins completed the scoring. Spencer Thompson made nine saves in net to notch the win.

Zack Bennett scored the Red Eddies’ (2-6) lone goal.

St. Dom’s 9, York 7

AUBURN – Tavian MacKinnon netted a game-high four goals and had an assist to carry St. Dom’s to a 9-7 victory over York in a boys’ lacrosse matchup.

Tyler Martin added a pair of goals, while Ben Adams scored a goal and had two assists for the Saints (5-3).

Cam Dillion led York (3-5) with three goals, and Sean Collins netted a pair of goals.

Hebron 21, Gould 3

HEBRON – Greg Harrington led Hebron with six goals and three assists as the Lumberjacks chopped their way to a 21-3 victory over Gould Academy in the MAISAD playoff semifinal game Wednesday. The Lumberjacks led 12-2 at the half and continued to expand their lead in the second half. Cameron Gosney chipped in with four goals and earned an impressive six assists.

Chalie Cummings posted three goals, while Roman Gosney, Ross Thayer and Austin Grande recorded a pair of goals each.

Hebron goalies Shane Gray and Keith MacDonald combined for four saves in net.
