What’s Your Gripe?

I was at the Auburn Public Library recently. A middle-aged woman sat in a comfortable arrangement of chairs, meant to entice folks to sit and enjoy the collection of books placed nearby. She was on her cell phone and carried on a lengthy conversation, using a normal tone of voice throughout. It apparently never occurred to her to lower her voice for the library patrons sharing her space. She spoke about someone’s diagnosis, prognosis, treatment and subsequent depression, totally oblivious to those around her. We all have our favorite cell phone abuse stories, and this is mine, but when did we stop being quiet out of respect to others in libraries?

Grocery stores encourage folks to bring their own bags from home, and who can argue with that? I wish they would observe how generous some baggers are with the plastic and paper bags when we forget to bring ours. It would make sense to do a better job with educating baggers to be as conservative as possible.

Why doesn’t the state put its foot down on the $2 to $3 Monster, Red Bull and Rockstar drinks people buy with the E.B.T cards people use? Obviously this is a waste and abuse of taxpayer money — maybe if the powers that be kept an eye on this stuff around the whole United States, the country as a whole wouldn’t need these huge bailouts! Specifically in Maine. Which government officials are in charge of this department? They should definitely be collecting unemployment, in my book.

My gripe is all of the ads for attorneys that say they will fight for you and get you a better settlement than you can on your own. True, but what they don’t tell you is they will take 30% right off the top!

Many many (hundreds) of self-addressed labels, catalogs, greeting cards, etc. I receive almost daily in the mail, non-requested. Many seek payment or donations even though I can’t use them or don’t want them!
