Growth Council to present awards


NORWAY – The Growth Council of Oxford Hills will present its annual dinner and Community Economic Development Awards Wednesday, May 24. Janet Yancey-Wrona, director of the Office of Innovation Department of Economic and Community Development, will be this year’s keynote speaker.

Yancey-Wrona accepted the position as Maine’s first director of the office, which oversees and evaluates all programs that receive state funding for research and development, coordinates efforts between and among the state’s educational, nonprofit and for-profit research-intensive organizations and develops and implements a science and technology plan for the state consistent with Maine’s overall economic development strategy.

She comes to this position after a five-year tenure as the founding president and director of the Maine Technology Institute where she oversaw more than $20 million in investments that support research and development leading to the commercialization of new products and services from Maine-based companies.
