LEWISTON — A Harrison man is free on bail following his arrest on a charge of possessing thousands of computer files and images of infants and toddlers being sexually abused, state police said Thursday.

Wayne Pike, 37, was arrested Friday at his home at 582 Bolsters Mills Road on a charge of possession of sexually explicit material of someone under the age of 12, Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said in a news release.

Pike works in construction and lived at his home with his wife and two young children, McCausland said.

Pike has been under investigation since last summer after the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit received information that resulted in a search of Pike’s house, McCausland said. Agents seized and examined Pike’s computer, and found thousands of files and images of infants and toddlers being sexually abused. None of the victims are believed to be from Maine, McCausland said.

Pike’s bail stipulations prohibit him from having contact with anyone under the age of 18, so he has had to find other living arrangements, McCausland said.

Pike is scheduled to appear in Cumberland County Superior Court in Portland on Nov. 19.
