Harvey D. Lipham
1918 – 2010
SARASOTA, Fla. — Harvey D. Lipham, 91, of Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Buckfield, passed away peacefully with his children by his side, March 13, at Tidewell Hospice of Sarasota.
He was born in Philadelphia, Pa., July 10, 1918. He attended school in Creamery, Pa. He was married to Muriel L. Dunn on June 30, 1940, and they raised their family in Mahwah, N.J., before relocating to Buckfield in 1982.
Known in his family and community for his winning smile and hearty laugh, he worked as a building contractor and built many homes in Mahwah. He also enjoyed making furniture. Most of the furniture that he had in his home was built in the garage. He was the Boy Scout leader for many years in Mahwah. Later he became a member of the Ramapo Masonic Lodge and was past master.
After retirement he sold the home in Mahwah, N.J., and moved to rural Buckfield, where he built another house and built more furniture. He continued working in his workshop and became an accomplished wood carver. In addition, he sang with the Hillsmen Barbershop Group.
He is survived by two children, Dolores (Laurie) Moody of New York City, and Robert (Bob) Lipham of Nokomis, Fla.; six grandchildren, Erik Moody of New York City, Christopher Moody of Ocean Springs, Miss., Dr. Jessica Lipham of Sarasota, Fla., Jessica Papineau of Sarasota, Fla., Kelly Hayes of Waitsfield, Vt., and Chelsea Lipham of Brooklyn, N.Y.; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Emily Hallman of Dunedin, Fla.
He was predeceased by his wife, Muriel on July8, 2005, and moved to Florida in 2006 to be near family; and siblings, Everett, Leonard, Berta and Grace.
