Hayward to discuss Thorncrag seasons

LEWISTON – The Senior College “Food for Thought” luncheon program series at USM/Lewiston-Auburn on Friday, May 12, will feature Susan Hayward, who will present a slide show and lecture on the “Four Seasons at Thorncrag.”

She will also discuss the nature center improvement project planned for the sanctuary.

Hayward is president of the Stanton Bird Club, which owns and operates Thorncrag, a 312-acre wildlife preserve in the heart of Lewiston.

She is a past steward of the sanctuary and served as its environmental educator for 23 years. Hayward is a graduate of the University of Maine, majoring in botany and education, and has taught environmental studies at Bates College and Bowdoin College.

The program will be held in the function room at USM/L-A beginning at noon. The cost, which includes lunch, is $6 with advance reservation or $8 at the door, which will open at 11:30 a.m. Reservation should be made by noon Thursday, May 11, by phone at 753-6510 or online at usm.maine.edu/lac.
