HealthSteps lists spring schedule of classes

LEWISTON — HealthSteps, part of the prevention and wellness services offered through St. Mary’s Health System, offers a wide range of classes with the core membership fee as well as a variety of specialty classes, including:

Ashtanga Yoga – Primary Standing Series: The beginner class is an athletic vinyasa format (meaning poses and breath energetically flow together). Participants should avoid eating one to tow hours before class and bring a yoga mat and water bottle.

Class will meet from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays, April 7 to May 12, with no class on April 21. It will be held in the Lepage Large Conference Room, 99 Campus Ave. Class will meet in the Bank of America Room on April 28. Cost is $45.

Beginner Pilates: Kerrie Poulin will instruct the beginner pilates mat class that is designed to increase one’s fitness level. Students can expect full body strengthening with particular emphasis on the core musculature. Participants should wear nonrestrictive attire and bring a pilates/yoga mat. Class will meet from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursdays, April 29 to June 10, with no class on May 27.

It will be held in the Lepage Large Conference Room. Cost is $60.

Bellydancing Aerobics: Offered by Imari (Lisa Cummings), the workout will utilize the movements of bellydancing. Class will meet from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Mondays, April 19 to May 24, in the Resident Dining Room, St. Mary’s d’Youville Pavilion, 102 Campus Ave. Cost is $50.

Gentle Exercise: The class is designed for those with arthritis, recovering from cancer or any other individual who desires a mild form of exercise. It will help improve range of motion, strength, posture, balance and coordination. Class will meet from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 4 to June 3, in the Resident Dining Room, St. Mary’s d’Youville Pavilion. Cost is $22 or free with core membership.

Intermediate/Advanced Pilates: Kerrie Poulin will instruct the mat class based on the teachings of Joseph Pilates. Participants should wear nonrestrictive attire and bring a pilates/yoga mat. Class will meet from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. Thursdays, April 29 to June 10, with no class on May 27. It will be held in the Lepage Large Conference Room. Cost is $60.

Mommy and Me Postnatal Yoga: The group is designed for mothers and their infant children, eight weeks to almost walking. Classes will offer an opportunity for mothers to bond, breathe and stretch with their babies and a chance to connect with other mothers while learning a few yoga tools to help support postpartum recovery. Participants should bring a blanket, yoga mat and a small bottle of organic essential oil for a baby massage.

Heidi Audet, RYT, will instruct. Class will meet from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays, May 19 to June 16, in the Lepage Large Conference Room. Cost is $60.

Prenatal Yoga: The class is geared for women in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy. Preregistration is required. No prior yoga experience is necessary. Yoga students need to bring a yoga mat and strap, pillow, one or two blankets and a water bottle. Class will meet from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays, April 7 to May 12, with no class on April 21.

Class will meet in the Lepage Large Conference Room. It will be held in the Bank of America Conference Room on April 28. Cost is $50.

Racquetball: Specific time slots are available for registration Monday through Friday on the hour, for an hour, from 6 a.m. until noon. Cost, with core membership, is $19 for the entire winter/spring session. Cost, without core membership, is one hour, once a week, March 29 to May 28, $40; one hour, twice a week, $64.

Senior Fitness: Johanne Healey will instruct the class and will provide participants with a safe and effective workout that includes a warm-up, cardiovascular component, resistance training to build strength, balance and flexibility exercises. Class will meet from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. or from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, May 3 to June 4. It will meet in the Resident Dining Room. Cost is $30.

T’ai Chi: In the introductory class, instructed by Kurt Young, participants will learn a simple form and supportive exercises to promote health and longevity. Class will meet from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, April 13 to May 18, in the Resident Dining Room. Cost is $50.

Tennis: Specific time slots available for registration, from Monday to Friday, include: 6 to 7 a.m., 7 to 8:30 a.m., 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., 9:30 to 11 a.m. and 11 a.m. to noon. The following guidelines apply: singles, maximum of two hour a week; doubles, maximum of three hours a week. The cost, with core membership, is $18 for the entire winter/spring session. Without core membership, cost is $64 from March 29 to May 28.
