LEWISTON — Healthy Androscoggin announces the recent addition of Amanda Hutchins as the new child and adolescent health promotion coordinator.
She will coordinate all of the youth programming for Healthy Androscoggin, including working with area schools and community youth groups to implement health promotion curricula, as well as further developing Healthy Androscoggin’s youth and internship programs. She will also address child environmental concerns, such as lead poisoning awareness, by assisting with the Healthy Homes Healthy Families classes and educating landlords about lead poisoning prevention. And she’ll help with the LEAP! project, which provides resources and technical assistance to local child care agencies so they can create healthier practices and environments.
Hutchins brings a multidisciplinary background to Healthy Androscoggin. She recently finished her master’s degree in nutrition and health promotion at Simmons College where she was a graduate assistant in the nutrition department. As an intern, she was involved with the Alfond Youth Center’s Kid Power program, which focuses on creating lifetime physical fitness and healthy eating habits.
She was the Winslow teen recreation coordinator, in which she interacted with teens and developed lasting relationships with them. Additionally, she instructed a college level wellness course at Springfield College in Springfield, Mass., and served as a member of the AmeriCorps program there. She has experience in both corporate and community environments within the health promotion field, but her passion is working with youth.
