Healthy Families gains accreditation


LEWISTON — Healthy Families Androscoggin, a program of Advocates for Children, 57 Birch St., Lewiston, has been accredited as a provider of high quality home visitation services to families who want to improve their child’s health, nutrition and developmental outcomes.

The announcement was made by Prevent Child Abuse America.

Healthy Families Androscoggin is an affiliate of Healthy Families America. The former is soon to be known as Maine Families Androscoggin.

The accreditation process is based upon a stringent set of 12 critical elements founded in 20 years of research. The process involves an in-depth examination of the site’s operation, as well as, the quality of the visits made by the family workers.

Healthy Families Androscoggin serves all ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. In 2009, HFA served 311 families through 2,837 home visits focused on providing new parents with support, child development information and connections to resources all with the goal of helping children get a healthy start and enter school ready to learn.
