MEXICO — The 2010-11 budgets for Vocational Region 9 secondary and adult and community education were presented at public hearings Monday night at Telstar High School in Bethel and the Region 9 School of Applied Technology in Mexico.
Vocational school director Brenda Gammon said she and several board members presented information on the $2 million secondary education budget, which is up about 1.4 percent from this year. The adult and community education budget of $279,173 is down about 6 percent from this year.
She said much of the hike for the secondary budget can be attributed to contracting with Western Foothills Regional School Unit 10 for technical support at a cost of $22,000. The vocational school often has to rely on calling out of the area for help when a computer goes down.
“Everything is computerized in the building,” she said.
The adult and community education budget is down because child care costs for adult education students have been eliminated and a couple of accounts were moved into the general Region 9 budget.
A special meeting of the Region 9 board will be held at 7 p.m. May 4 to sign the warrant. The budgets will be voted on by residents of the 17-town vocational district at 6:30 p.m. May 18 at the River Road school.
