Here we snow again; another storm expected Tuesday

LEWISTON — The snow from Saturday’s snowstorm is melting in time for a fresh coat expected Tuesday.

But Tuesday’s storm will be more of a wintry mix, according to the National Weather Service.  The forecast calls for rain mainly along the Maine coast. Snow is more likely in the mountains and foothills according to the NWS.

Areas away from the coast will be looking at 2 to 5 inches of snow with as much as 8 inches in the higher elevations, writes Lexie O’Connor.

According to NWS and WGME forecasts, Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties can expect:

  • The storm should arrive in time for the morning commute.
  • The NWS forecasts  snow and sleet lasting throughout the day and tapering off during the night.
  • Temperatures to stay within the 30s.
  • Slippery roads and limited visibility could contribute to hazardous driving conditions.
  • The snow will be wet and heavy, which makes downed power lines and tree limbs a possibility.
  • Wednesday’s high temperature — in the 40s — should melt most of Tuesday’s snow.
  • Forecasters expect rain on Thursday, which could create flood conditions.
